  • WRINKLY RECOMMENDATIONS ON YOUR CHINESE SHARPEI
    ********************************************************************************************

There are many questions on diet, activities, remedies and care of your Chinese Sharpei that I may be able to guide you on. I have had the breed for over fifteen years and will share my knowledge with you and your Chinese Sharpei puppy or adult.

    DIET-
Chinese Sharpei do best on a lower protein diet which excludes corn, soy or wheat. I feed  Vet Choice Healthy Extensions-  lamb and rice dry dog food. It works well for my dogs. The protein level for your dog's food should be 20% or LESS! I do include carrots, squash or other seasonal vegetable that I cook for myself and add them as treat to their food. I feed smaller portions twice a day. Your dog will have food in their belly and function even when you are at work.  I do include cottage cheese, plain yogurt in the  dry chow as well. I water or put chicken broth on the chow to soften it up every time I feed the dogs.

  • HYGIENE - Wash your dog at least once per month.  Use Biogroom shampoo- you dliute it according to the label. Do their nails weekly- get a DREMEL at hardware store. Get a wireless one with batteries. Bath and do nails on your puppy so they get used to the running water and the clippers or dremel. Then it is fun and not a chore for you and your sharpei.
  • EARS
  • Make sure you keep the dog's ears clean. Do not let the wax build up inside. Be gentle when cleaning the ears out. Use 3 parts apple cider vinegar to 1 part rubbing alcohol. mix it up in a plastic bottle that you can seal and store. go and buy a bulb to clean human ears out with. you squeeze the bulb so it takes in the mixture- tip your dogs head sideways- squirt in the mixtur.e rub it around. then the wax buildup will come out. use a baby wipe to clean out rest after a bit. then do the other ear.

    BAIT FOR DOG SHOW -
I boil boneless chicken breast in water and garlic powder till it is cooked. Then once cooled, I cut it up into pieces. I also make Liver brownies. I go to the market and ask for a pound of fresh liver. You can also boil the liver for about an hour in water and garlic powder. Then dry it off, bake it in oven 325 for 30 minutes to dry it out.

    WATER -
Make sure your dog has cool water. Never put ice cubes in it! You can cause your dog to bloat, flip its stomach and DIE! Make sure your dog always has enough water if you are going out for a minute, an hour or the evening. Keep a spray bottle with water for trips in the car so you can hydrate your dog. Never leave a dog in the car when it is hot out. The temperature rises quickly in a car- windows open or closed.

TREATS - Give your dog treats that do not contain corn, soy or wheat in them. I make my own treats. I will email you a recipe if you ask me for it. Never give your dog rawhide- it builds up in their intestines and doesn't decompose so causes medical troubles down the road. You can go to a butcher and get the knuckle bones and boil them up. Let them cool and give one as a treat.  Sharpei will gnaw on these for hours.
